Supported Efforts

Since 1985, the first year a gift was made, The Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness has awarded over 130 local scientific research grants totaling more than 3.4 million dollars. Types of projects funded include but are not limited to schizophrenia, alcoholism, depression, bipolar disorders, PMS, autism, thyroid dysfunction, post-partum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and social phobias. Types of efforts supported

  • Research into the biological basis of mental illness
  • Development of laboratory tests that can aid in the diagnosis of mental illness
  • Development and evaluation of new treatments for mental illness
  • Acquisition of technological aids (computers, lab equipment) and other resources that enhance research initiatives
  • Fund promising research by young investigators who will become the new generation of research leaders
  • Finance innovative research into the causes, prevention, treatment and cures of severe mental illness
