9th Annual Race for Steak

Accompanying our annual Walk for Hope, the Race for Steak is a USA Track & Field Certified run held in Raleigh, North Carolina, with timed 5K and 10K routes. 100% of the money raised by participants directly funds local mental health research at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Department of Psychiatry.
2017 Race for Steak Details
Both 5K and 10K routes begin at the Angus Barn, and continue through Umstead Park. Pre-registration begins June 8, 2017. Onsite race registration is open Saturday, October 7 from 10AM to 6PM and Sunday, October 8 at 7AM.
The Race for Steak features two different routes:
ALL participants are required to pay a registration fee of $35 for the Race for Steak. For adult participants, an extra $35 donation ($40 after August 10) is required for admission into the post-Walk/Race celebration at the Angus Barn.
Same-Day Cost: October 8
$75 Adult Run & Armband (entrance into post-Walk/Race celebration at the Angus Barn)
$35 Adult Run ONLY (no entrance into post-Walk/Race celebration)
$35 Children (5-12) and Full-Time Students*
Children 4 & under are free.
*All children and full-time students who register for the Race for Steak will receive an armband for the post-Walk/Race celebration.
The Walk for Hope/Race for Steak is more than just a community event – it is a huge fundraiser that directly funds the research and treatment of mental illness. Most of our walkers and runners raise the money they need to participate; in fact, the average participant in the Walk/Race raises a minimum of $150.

Prior to Race Day, participants can register, turn in collection envelopes, and pick up T-shirts and event armbands at the Angus Barn on:
Friday, October 6, 10AM-6PM
Saturday, October 7, 10AM-6PM
Beat the crowd and save time! We STRONGLY encourage Early Check-In.
Race for Steak registration opens at 7AM at the Angus Barn (see parking instructions below). To encourage early registration and check-in, ALL Walk Day prices increase by $5.
Start times are as follows:
10K Run: 8AM Start
5K Run: 8:05AM Start
Prizes will be announced for 10K and 5K top finishers beginning at 8:45AM.
Online Race for Steak registration will close at 11:59 PM on Thursday, October 5
- All PRE-REGISTERED participants arriving with T-shirt and event armband will be allowed to proceed quickly through entrance checkpoint.
- All participants needing to register or turn in money will be directed to an on-site registration area.
- Staff will be available to point you in the right direction!
A team consists of 5 or more participants. Each member may join their team when they sign up online. Please make sure to give your team members the Team Name or Team Captain’s Name to make sure your members sign up on the right team.

- Angus Barn gift cards will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers for both 5K and 10K races.
- Prizes will also be awarded to the top male and female finisher in the following age groups for both 5K and 10K finishers:
13 & under
As of 2016, participants will no longer park at RDU Airport.
Parking is available in 2 separate areas off of Lumley Road:
1.) 9600 Lumley Road
2.) 8081 Arco Corporate Drive, near the exit of Lumley Road & I-540

FREE Walk shuttles will be available 6:30AM to 3PM
Food: Breakfast items will be provided. All registered participants are welcome to join the post-Walk for Hope/Race for Steak Celebration at the Angus Barn, with kids’ activities, great food, music, and more. NOTE: Adult runners who wish to participate in the celebration at the Angus Barn must purchase an armband. See registration page for details.
Rest Stops: Rest stops with water and snacks are available along the route. There are also Hopemobiles available along the route for anyone who needs a ride.
Pets: Please leave your pets at home.
Strollers: If you bring a child, remember to bring a stroller, infant carrier, baby jogger or wagon.
Rain: Event is rain or shine. In the event of heavy rain or severe weather, plan to park at one of the designated parking areas off of Lumley Road and turn in your collection envelope by noon; further instructions will be available on our website.
