Gala History

The first Evening of Hope was held in 1992 at the home of Alice Eure, the co-founder of the Foundation of Hope. Even though Alice is no longer with us, her spirit, generosity and incredible desire to make a difference remain forever present in all that we do.

Through the years, the Foundation has been fortunate to bring exceptional advocates of mental health as our keynote speakers at the Evening of Hope. In 2023, Wynonna Judd shared stories from her youth, the pain of losing her mother to suicide, and invited questions from guests about how she copes with depression. September 2022’s keynote Marie Osmond spoke eloquently about her lifetime experiences – both positive and negative – and how they shaped her outlook on life and gave her the strength to keep going forward. In February 2022, singer LeAnn Rimes shared her journey with anxiety, and sang a cappella about how despite struggling, those with mental illness should take heart that there “will be a better day.” In 2019, TV anchor Elizabeth Vargas discussed how her alcoholism was exacerbated by her panic disorder, and how she is speaking out to help others do the same.  In 2018, actress Brooke Shields spoke about her struggles with postpartum depression and the stigma associated with the disorder.

Other past speakers include Jane PauleyZak Williams, Judy Collins, Mariel Hemingway, and Ashley Judd.
